It was created as a department by law on February 28 of
1839, during the government of Agustín Gamarra.
AREA: 35,029 km2.
CAPITAL: Huaraz
HEIGHT: 3,091 m.a.s.l.
LOCATION: The department of Ancash is located to the
North of Lima, between the Pacific Ocean and the Marañón
river, right margin of the Santa River.
WEATHER: Annual Average Temperature: 18º C (máx. 18º
C - mín. 9º C).
RAIN SEASON: December to April.
